Differences Between Rolling Roof and Bioclimatic Pergola

Rolling Roof and Bioclimatic Pergola are two of the most popular solutions in modern outdoor systems. Although they appear to use similar profile structures at first glance, they differ significantly in their operating principles and motor systems.

Rolling Roof Pergola is an innovative system that operates with a single motor, performing both tilt and shift movements simultaneously. This allows the panels to tilt open and retract backward with a single command, enabling the roof area to open completely. Its mechanism is compact and efficient, providing maximum movement capability with minimal motor requirements. (An example animation of the ROLLING ROOF system is shown below.)

Bioclimatic Pergola, on the other hand, features a dual-motor configuration with a different operating mechanism. In the first stage, piston motors are activated, lifting the panels upward to an angle of approximately 105°. This movement allows controlled ventilation and natural light to enter the covered area.

Next, a tubular motor moves the raised panels forward and backward, allowing the roof to open completely provide partial shading as needed.

(An example animation of the DUAL-MOTOR BIOCLIMATIC PERGOLA system is shown below.)

In summary, although both systems share a similar material and structural foundation, their primary difference lies in their motor configurations and movement mechanisms. This distinction plays a key role in determining both the user experience and the mechanical design of each system.

  • Rolling Roof: Offers integrated tilt and shift movements using a single motor.

  • Bioclimatic Pergola: Uses a dual-motor system to perform tilt and shift movements in separate stages.
